Biography

Francis W. Huff passed away at 8 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2011, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. He was born Jan. 25, 1921, in Schuyler County near Brooklyn, to P. Walter and V. Pearl (Sapp) Huff. He married Mary Margaret Twaddle on Aug. 8, 1953, in Mt. Sterling. She preceded him in death July 9, 1998.

He is survived by one daughter and two sons,

  • M. Kay Huff, of Chicago,
  • Paul James Huff, of Macomb,
  • Ted Jay Huff, of Macomb.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, James P. Huff, and two sisters, Garnett Lindsey and Vera Morrow.

Mr. Huff was a 1939 Western Academy Graduate. He was a WW II veteran in the United States Army Medical Corps serving in Europe, achieving the rank of Sergeant and was awarded a bronze battle star. He received his BS in Agriculture and in Physical Education, a Masters Degree in Science Education (Biology) from Western Illinois University; and a Banking Degree from Southern Illinois University. He taught biology at Plymouth High School from 1957 to 1959. He also taught adult education classes. Francis was involved in banking and credit for many years, working for Coop Credit; and as the Vice President for the Livestock National Bank; Vice President of Central National Banks of Chicago; and was the President of Colchester State Bank from 1966 to 1979. He also worked in Real Estate and Insurance.

In semi-retirement he worked at Macomb High School as an assistant in Special Education. He enjoyed reading and writing poetry. Francis was a member of the First Baptist Church, Macomb VFW Post 1921, and American Legion Post 6 of Macomb.
