Biography

Isaac Henry HUFF was born 29 May 1829. (Note that there was a different Isaac Henry Huff born in the same year, on 29 Dec 1829 in Carroll County, Virginia). Isaac was born in what was then a part of Montgomery County, Virginia, but which became part of the newly formed Floyd County when it was formed in 1831. His parents were Henry HUFF and Rachel (Jackson) HUFF.

On 29 Apr 1852 in Roanoke Co., VA, Isaac married Lucinda KEFAUVER (22 Dec 1831 VA - 21 Mar 1883, buried in Roanoke City Cemetery). Lucinda was a daughter of Peter D Kefauver Jr. and Susanna "Susan" NIDAY. Isaac and Lucinda lived for some time in Copper Hill, then moved to Roanoke, where the children became active in business and civic affairs.

Isaac passed away 1 Sep 1906 at the home of his son, Ballard Preston HUFF, in Roanoke, Virginia.

  1. Ballard Preston HUFF (28 Jan 1853 VA - 30 Mar 1921) on 16 Oct 1884 in Floyd Co, VA, md Florence Jane THOMAS (Apr 1863 VA - ), dau of Charles M. THOMAS and Jane (CRAWFORD) THOMAS of Big LIck, VA. They had daus Alice J. HUFF and Edith M. HUFF. Ballard was a grocer and banker in Roanoke, VA. He was President of the wholesale firm of Huff, Andrews, and Thomas.
  2. Phillip Wiley HUFF (4 Jun 1857 - 16 Sep 1921) md (1) Eva SNYDER, but any ch are not known. He md (2) Mrs. Georgia (KIRK) ROBINSON, dau of William V. KIRK. In 1910, they were with the KIRK parents. In 1920, they boarded with C. R. DOWDY. Phillip W. HUFF was then a retired merchant.
  3. George Cannady HUFF (Apr 1859 VA - 21 Mar 1934) md Blanch VINYARD, and had Annie; Clifton; Ballard B. and Hugh. They lived in Washington Co, VA.
  4. infant HUFF (13 Aug 1861 VA - 13 Aug 1861 VA).
  5. Atwood Jackson HUFF (27 May 1865 - 6 Jun 1926) md Nannie MEADE (Sep 1866 VA - ), and had Lois C. HUFF; Isaac H. HUFF; Elizabeth C. HUFF; and Oliver M. HUFF; and possibly others
  6. Eva Anne HUFF (15 Jun 1867 - 6 Jun 1950) md 25 Sep 1888 Franklin Pierce RUTROUGH (or aka Frank P. RUTROUGH), son of Solomon RUTROUGH and Evalina (Hobach) RUTROUGH. Had four children: Florence L. RUTROUGH; Henry H. RUTROUGH; Pauline RUTROUGH; Eva V. RUTROUGH.[1]
  7. Peter Carr HUFF (7 Jul 1869 Roanoke, Virginia[2] - 11 Jan 1957) was a farm owner who md Nora VINYARD (1883 VA - ), and they lived in "The Barrens" of Roanoke Co. Their ch were Kathern HUFF and Mary F. HUFF.
  8. Essie Virginia HUFF (29 Dec 1872 VA - 15 Jan 1906, buried in City Cemetery, Roanoke City, VA) md John Ross COOK (also known as Ross COOK) and had no ch.
  9. William Watts HUFF (25 Jan 1876 VA - 13 Dec 1925) in Oct 1905 md Edna HOSKINS (1883 KY - ), of KY parents, and had son Leigh Preston HUFF. William W. was a merchant in Roanoke City who owned his own store.
  10. Alice Peyton HUFF (26 Dec 1878 VA - 7 Aug 1899, buried in Roanoke City Cemetery) md Harry GERVIN (c 1864 - ).
