A descendant searched for a record of the immigrant John Frederick VON HOOF, but could not find it. He concluded that the immigrant was more likely the father, Paul VON HOFF.

Huff lineage is John Frederick VON HOOF and Susanna (Keim) of Germany and PA; Paulus and Marie Elizabeth ( ) VON HOOF of Germany; (In spite of missing generations, there are assertions that Paulus descended from Ernst VON HOOF, whose ancestor, one Baldwin VON HOOF, was killed while storming Jerusalem in 1099 during one of the Crusades. Because of the Von Hoof coat of arms, it is believed they were of French ancestry.)
