Recommendation from Joseph Brant dated at Newark, 20th April 1797 "I do hereby certify that the Bearer, Mr Henry Huff joined me in the year 1777 and that he continued with the Indian Department til the end of the war during which time be behaved as a brave soldier and a firm Loyalist without having received any compensation for his services. That your Petitioner is the eldest and only son and Heir at Law of Henry Huff, late of the said County of Haldiman, deceased. That the said Henry Huff was a Sergeant in the late corps of Butlers Rangers and on the 1st of August 1797 received an Order in Council for 500 acres of land as a Sergeant and 300 acres Family Lands and lodged the warrant of Survey for such grants in the Surveyor Generals Office.
