Biography

William was born about 1790, the son of John Huggins of Glenarb townland in the parish of Aghaloo, county Tyrone, and Jean Thompson of Creevelough, same parish.[1]

Having undertaken as an indigo planter in West Bengal, in 1822 William there married Harriet Hawkins née Rutledge, the widow of Lieut. James Zachariah Hawkins.[2][3]

After his retirement first to England and thence to Ireland, Mr Huggins died on the 10th March 1868 at Belvidere Cottage in Ballyaughlis townland in the parish of Drumbeg, county Down, aged about seventy-eight years.[4]
