Thomas Hughes was born in Wales about 1840. He and Anne Tattum married in Bagillt, Flintshire in 1862 and had a number of children. He died in Neston, Cheshire, in 1914.
There are at least four men (and probably more) named Thomas Hughes, born in Flintshire, Wales in the 1835-1845 time period and married to a woman named Ann. Census records show different occupations: blacksmith, wool weaver, shoemaker, and coal miner. the records also list children with same/similar names, but slightly different ages/birthdates/places. Thomas Hughes, the father of Jane Hughes Sharps, was married to Ann Tattum and was most likely a coal miner. It appears that the children in the family were Joseph, Jane, Elizabeth and Thomas. Additional research is needed to confirm which families are which.
