Married 20 Jan 1847 Perth to Margaret Greer. Witness was his future brother-in-law George Livingstone (would marry sister Margaret in 1848). Pierce and Margaret lived Lot 13 Conc 10 South Sherbrooke, next to his parents, and to the west the Moore family. Known children: George 7 Feb 1848, Thomas 12 Jan 1850, Ann 27 Nov 1854, John 1857, Matilda 29 May 1860 [1], Margaret 29 Aug 1861, Robert Henry 20 Feb 1864, Mary Jane 17 Apr 1867, and Pierce W 28 Mar 1870. Moved to Flos Township Simcoe County about 1867 with sister Elizabeth Briggs family and some of their Johnston nephews [2][3] Died 16 Dec 1884 Flos Twp, killed by a falling tree.
From Lanark Genealogy Karen Prytula: In 1842, William Moore lived beside the Hughes. 1850s Robert and Pierce Hughes take ownership over Conc 10 Lot 14 which William Moore had farmed prior to his death. William’s son Thomas Moore and the other church men fought to preserve the CHURCH, built ca1845 on the Moore/Hughes land and its BURYING ground also on this lot during the late 1850s. A new ‘cedar chapel’ was going to be built in the 1860s where Laidley Cemetery is now.
