In the 1911 Ireland census Harold Hughes was age 5, living at Brookvale Street, Clifton, Belfast, Co. Antrim, with his parents William Hughes (39), joiner at builder's yard, Margaret Hughes (34) and siblings Molly Hughes (9), George Hughes (6), Dorothy Hughes (1) and aunt Annie Tolland (32) and her daughter May Tolland (1)[2].
It appears that William Hughes and his family emigrated from Belfast to New South Wales, Australia at some point shortly after 1911.
