On 7 February 1833, Israel died, at Cape Island, New Jersey. He was a pilot. [4] He was buried in Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, Cape May, Cape May County, New Jersey. [1] [2]

'ISRAEL HUGHES (Memucan Hughes, Hannah Whilldin, Joseph Whilldin, Hannah Gorhamn, Desire Howland, JOHN HOWLAND THE PILGRIM), was born at Cape May, 9 May, 1778, died at Cape May, 7 February, 1833, (tombstone in Cold Spring Cemetery), married at Cape May, 3 August, 1896, Mary Eldredge, born at Cape May, 16 March, 1785, (25 February given as the date of birth in family bible—see page 33), died at Cape May, 16 June, 1863, (tombstone in Cold Spring Cemetery).

(1) ARTIS HUGHES, married Nancy Tomlinson, and had: LYDIA HUGHES, who married Isaac Connor, and had HARRY CONNOR and SOPHIE CONNOR; ELLEN HUGHES.
(2) MEMUCAN HUGHES, born at Cape May, 1810, married Mary P. Edmunds. (For descendants see page 329).
(3) SOPHIA HUGHES, born 14 October, 1812, married Aaron Bennett. (For descendants see page 258.)
(4) ISABELLA HUGHES, died without issue.
(5) ISRAEL HUGHES, born 5 April, 1822, married Elizabeth H. Hoffman. (For descendants see page 259).
(6) MARY ANN HUGHES, married Evan Davis, and had, EDWIN LEWIS DAVIS, who married Cecelia Frances Roseman, and had: SARAH DAVIS, deceased; HARRY BARBOUR DAVIS, married Lois M. Whilldin, and had, HELENA FRANCES DAVIS, who married Thomas Garry, and EDWIN LEWIS DAVIS.
(7) MATILDA HUGHES, born 6 February, 1817, married Paul Barnes. (For descendants see page 260).
(8) MARTHA HUGHES, married ISAAC WHILLDIN, (see page 215).
(9) EVELINE HUGHES, died without issue.
(10) CHARLOTTE HUGHES, married Peter Bridenthal, no issue.
'Israel Hughes, son of Memucan and Martha Hughes, was born at Cape May City, New Jersey, May 10, 1778, died there February 7, 1833. He married Mary Eldridge, born at Cape May, February 15, 1785, died June 16, 1863, daughter of William Eldridge (1734-1809) and his wife Judith (Corson) Eldridge, daughter of Nathan Corson, and a descendant of Captain Ezekiel Eldridge, one of the first settlers and prominent officials of Cape May county.'
