   'ISRAEL HUGHES (Memucan Hughes, Hannah Whilldin, Joseph Whilldin, Hannah Gorhamn, Desire Howland, JOHN HOWLAND THE PILGRIM), was born at Cape May, 9 May, 1778, died at Cape May, 7 February, 1833, (tombstone in Cold Spring Cemetery), married at Cape May, 3 August, 1896, Mary Eldredge, born at Cape May, 16 March, 1785, (25 February given as the date of birth in family bible—see page 33), died at Cape May, 16 June, 1863, (tombstone in Cold Spring Cemetery).

   (1) ARTIS HUGHES, married Nancy Tomlinson, and had: LYDIA HUGHES, who married Isaac Connor, and had HARRY CONNOR and SOPHIE CONNOR; ELLEN HUGHES.

He married Mary Eldridge, born at Cape May, February 15, 1785, died June 16, 1863, daughter of William Eldridge (1734-1809) and his wife Judith (Corson) Eldridge, daughter of Nathan Corson, and a descendant of Captain Ezekiel Eldridge, one of the first settlers and prominent officials of Cape May county.'
