He gave his next of kin as James Hughes (father), of Canvastown, Blenheim, Marlborough, He embarked 16 October 1914 aboard HMNZT 4 or HMNZT 11 the vessels Tahiti or Athenic , as a Private in the Canterbury Infantry Battalion , Main Body He was Killed in Action, 8 May 1915 at the Daisy Patch, in Gallipoli . His name appears on the Twelve Tree Copse (New Zealand) Memorial, at Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery, in Helles, Turkey ; the Marlborough War Memorial, at 20 Seymour Street, Blenheim, and the Canvastown Memorial Hall, on State Highway 6, in Canvastown [3]
