Francis Robert Augustus was born in 1894. He was the son of James Hughes and Sydney Amy Severne. [1] He passed away in 1915 age 21. [2]

Robert Francis Augustus Hughes (Service number 6/267 )served in the Army during World War 1. He was a Private with the Canterbury Infantry Battalion, 12th (Nelson) Company . He gave his next of kin as James Hughes (father), of Canvastown, Blenheim, Marlborough, He embarked 16 October 1914 aboard HMNZT 4 or HMNZT 11 the vessels Tahiti or Athenic , as a Private in the Canterbury Infantry Battalion , Main Body He was Killed in Action, 8 May 1915 at the Daisy Patch, in Gallipoli . His name appears on the Twelve Tree Copse (New Zealand) Memorial, at Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery, in Helles, Turkey ; the Marlborough War Memorial, at 20 Seymour Street, Blenheim, and the Canvastown Memorial Hall, on State Highway 6, in Canvastown [3]
