Susannah Hughes was born 3 July 1816 in North Carolina.^[1][2]

As of the 1850 U.S. Census, Susannah was living with her husband, Jesse Kindley in Davidson County, North Carolina, United States, with several of their children and a possible sister (Margaret J. Hughes, age 20, so born about 1830). Among their children^[3]:
