Biography

Jeremiah Hughston, died April 12, 1812, aged 63 years, 1 day. His wife, Rebecca, died April 7, 1812, aged 61 years, 10 months, 9 days.[1]

Jeremiah Hughston is buried with his wife, Rebecca, in Gilead Cemetery Carmel, Putnam County, New York. It is worth noting that his Find-a-Grave profile contains a number of errors. The inscription on the stone indicates that he died at the age of 63 years and 1 day old, but the profile shows he was born in 1724 and died in 1810, which would make him 86 years old. He appears to have been confused with a different Jeremiah Hughston.[2]

Hughson-335 and Hughson-6 do not represent the same person because: The Jeremiah Hughson who died on April 12, 1812 in Carmel, New York, and buried with wife Rebecca, was only 63 years old, thus born in 1749, and not the father of Hughson children born in the 1750s. I have documentation from three sources on this. There has been much confusion over this online, and one reason is due to the fact that that there were at least two adult Jeremiah Hughsons in Carmel in late 1700s, early 1800s records there. Would be happy to provide more info.
