Biography

Thomas was born on 21 March 1857 at Pitt Town and baptised on 27 April 1857 at St Matthew’s, Catholic Church at Windsor. [1]. He was the son of George Humphries and Jane Greentree.

The death occurred at an early hour on Saturday morning, at the residence of Mr John Cashman, Piper-street, of Mr Thomas Humphries, at the age of 56. The deceased gentleman had resided within the Bathurst district for between 40 and 50 years, and during the greater part of this time, he followed farming pursuits.
He was unmarried. Of late years he had resided with his brother, at South Bathurst.
Mr Humphries had been in a delicate state of health for the past 6 or 7 months. Mrs John Cashman, Bathurst ; Mrs Gauld, Paddington ; Mrs W. Cashman, Bathurst ; Mrs George Cunninghame, Yale Road : Mrs John Donnelly, Dubbo, are sisters of deceased, and he is also survived by two brothers, Mr Michael Humphries, of Burraga, and Mr Daniel Humphries, of South Bathurst.
Mr Humphries was a quiet, unassuming man, and was much respected by all who knew him.
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon ; the remains being interred in the Catholic portion of the Bathurst General Cemetery, Rev Father Flanagan officiated at the graveside, Mr. W. Boyd conducted the funeral arrangements.

According to the obituaries for his brother David, the Humphries family moved to Bathurst circa 1870. The Aust Cemetries index confirms the Thomas Humphries who died 11 Jan 1908 and is buried at Bathurst is the son of George Edward Humphries and Jane Greentree
