Biography

Matthew J. was born about 1832 in Indiana, the son of Joseph and Nancy Hunsaker. In 1850, the Hunsaker family lived in Hart, Warrick, Indiana. The household included Joseph, 54, b. KY, a farmer with $1000 in real estate; his wife Nancy, 47, b. VA; and their eleven children, all b. IN: Jefferson, 25, a farmer; Elijah, 23, a farmer; James, 21, a farmer and a student; Minerva, 18; Matthew J., 17, a farmer & in school; Joseph M., 16, a farmer & in school; Nancy, 14, in school; Andrew, 12, in school; Sarah, 10, in school; Elizabeth, 7; and Robert D.O., 1.
