Biography

William was born about 1845 in Missouri. His mother was born in Ireland.[1] Nothing is known of his life until 1870 when he is living in Mount Pleasant, Titus County, Texas, United States.[2] Family lore suggests that he killed a man in a bar fight in Missouri and fled because he was wanted for murder. He married Sarah Ann E "Sallie" Ballard before June, 1870. According to the 1870 census, Sarah and their newborn son shared their home with William's mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and a man named Thomas R. English.

They had four sons and three daughters over the next 18 years. By 1880, the family lived in Franklin County, Texas with four sons. William was working as a laborer.[1] He passed away sometime between 1888 and 1894, after his daughter was born in 1886 and before his widow remarried.[3]
