Research Notes

Mary was born 1761, possibly 18 Feb 1761 in Virginia. There are two main sources of birth, and both imply the information derived from a Family Bible. Some have speculated she was born in Bedford County, Virginia.
Mary was possibly married to William Walton on date unknown, or to Meshack Hale in about 1782.
The Mississippi Society D.A.R. implies the marriage came from the Family Bible.
The Newsletter from Online Family Network does not provide a source.
There are also multiple family trees on the Online Family network, where some cast suspicion on the marriage to Meshack Hale, where they note "Line not proven. Note similarity between names of children and the children of Meshack Haile, b.ca 1738 (Maude Crowe's book on Descendants From First Families of Virginia and Delaware). This information was provided 3-20-95 by; Felicia Gourdin; Andersonville, TN." The same source shows Meshack Hale was b. Abt 1738, Baltimore, Maryland , d. Abt 1824, Washington Co., Tennessee
Mary's children were: Elizabeth, George, Henry, Jacob, James, John, Joseph, Meshack, Nancy, Rebecca, and William. The last name of her children were possibly Walton or Hale, depending on the source being referenced.
Mary's death is generally thought to be unknown. However, there is one reference indicating she died 1838 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mary's parents have not been proven, but many speculate her father is Dr. Thomas Hunt. Her mother's name is even more vague. Possible mother: Ann or Anne, maiden name possibly Henson or Hanson. Allen Hunt

Notes about two different Mary's from Bedford?

"Mary (Hunt) Walton and Mary Hunt-1064 - These profiles...both of them are listed as the mother of Jacob Walton. The woman who was married to William Walton. The woman who died in 1838 in St Louis, Missouri and is buried in Fee Fee Baptist Cemetery in Bridgeton. The problem with both profiles Hunt - 16257 and Hunt -1064 is that they are a combination of 2 different Mary Hunt that lived in Bedford.

There is Mary Hunt who married William Walton who was born between 1751 and 1754 per census records. Her parents are unknown.

There was a Mary Hunt on a list of 14 Hunt siblings with parents Thomas and associated with a Mother of Ann Hunt. Her birthday is listed as Feb 18, 1761.

I've never seen a sound argument of how these two are the same woman." Sharon

Just checking the FAG site for information? she has been attributed to DR. Thomas Hunt there as well, with a DOB as 61. AND, But...the source is me. So this information couldn't have been taken from my research and added - despite the possibility, there could be two Mary's from Bedford County Virginia. My research does not have Mary, Dr. Hunt's daughter connected to Walton.

Ah, I also see that this profile was originally attributed to the Hunt Family of Dr. Thomas Hunt, Bedford County Virginia, then the parents were changed to the Thomas Elwood Hunt family of NY...So both profiles, then, would be for the Mary of the 1761 date. We need to find some research for the other Mary who married Walton to verify her birthdate and her connection to the Hunt's of VA. The Thomas Elwood Hunts of NY are not a DNA match to the Dr. Thomas Hunt of Bedford, County Virginia.

Is there any documentation on the different births? other than the 1761 in the Jackson Family Bible? If we could define the birth date with a source we would be stepping closer to discerning that there are indeed two different Mary Hunt's in Bedford County Virginia.
