Charles James Hunt was born in Holloway, Islington, London, late in 1875. [1]
Woods Cottages, Hamilton RD, London
In 1881 Charles J Hunt was in Norwood with his widowed mother Melinda 43 a dressmaker born Tostock, Suffolk, and two older siblings born in Holloway like himself. [2]
This helps only a little toward identifying his parentage
in 1871: In 1871 Melinda and Frederick are found together, identified only as relatives in the household of Alfred C Brewer 44 in Highbury. [3]
Marriage 1901 in Southwark
Charles James Hunt married Florence Dye in Southwark in 1901. [4]
Children
This couple had at least 8 children, at first Harold 1904, Charles Stanley 1906, Florence Maud 1909, Frank in 1911, Sidney in 1913, mostly in Lambeth but later in Croydon, including Frederick in 1916, and Violet in 1918.

West Norwood, Lambeth 1911
In 1911 Charles Hunt and his wife Florence Jane Selina are living in West Norwood, part of Lambeth, south of the Thames. So it is no surprise to find that the two sons with them, Harold Ernest Hunt age 7 and Charles Henry Hunt age 5 were born in that same area. Their daughter Florence Maud age 2 was born in Camberwell in the nearby borough of Islington. [16]
Start of Second World War
When the nation was registered for I.D. cards at the start of WW2, Charles and Florence are still alive and active, though into their sixties. With them are two of their children, Sidney born 1913 and Violet born 1918, soon to marry Cecil Bate. [17]
Death 1856 Farnworth, Manchester
Although there is only one Charles J Hunt dying after 1939 it seems to be unlikely to be this Charles as he is in the Manchester having previously always been in London. [18]
Disambiguation
This Charles James Hunt is a close contemporary and seems at first to fit the description of Charles J Hunt given in the 1891 census. Eventually, however, it becomes clear that the son of Henry Charles Hunt and Sarah Osborne does NOT have the middle initial J as indicated in the 1891 census, but is Charles Henry Hunt born as expected in West Ham.
