Mr William Hunt.
YET another of Merriwa's grand old men passed to his long rest on Monday, when death claimed Mr. William Hunt. The late Mr.Hunt, who was 69 years of age, had resided in Merriwa all his life, and was one of the district's well known graziers. His property, "Brooklyn" being in close proximity to the Settlement.
The deceased was particularly interested in all matters pertaining to the well-being and progress of that district, especially in connection with the hall. The late Mr. Hunt was also closely identified with the building and maintenance of the Redwell Church, and until his recent illness his advice and help were sought on all occasions in connection with these two activities.
Deceased had a lingering illness, he having taken ill some five months ago. During that period he was nursed at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Norris, and it was only within two weeks of his death he was taken to the hospital, and it was there the end came. Mrs. Hunt predeceased her husband some 18 years ago, but left to mourn the loss of a dearly-loved father are four sons and two daughters, Messrs S. J., Mawson, Elijah and Hilton Hunt, and Mrs.Norris and Mrs. Reg. Aldwell.
The funeral took place on Tuesday in the Church of England portion of the local cemetery, and was representative of town and district.
The Rev. Reay Campbell, of Muswellbrook, conducted a service at the Holy Trinity Church and later at the graveside.
