Biography

Vital Records of Olivia (Hunt) Ramsey: Olivia was born in Michigan on 7 May 1872. She is the first born child and daughter of Abner Hunt and Francis Hunt. She married in Curtis, Frontier, Nebraska on 18 Jul 1888, John Thomas Ramsey, son of John A. Ramsey and Mary Cummings.[1] They had 5 (known) children together, all born in Curtis. 1) Raymond R. b. on 5 May 1889; 2) Richard E. b. abt. 1891; Richard died in 1895 at the age of four; 3) Eva Pearl b. 5 Nov 1894; 4) Mary Evelyn b. 16 May 1897; and 5) Elijah Eli b. 4 Dec 1899. Liva died in Curtis in 1954.[2]

Census Records and other historical artifacts of Olivia (Hunt) Ramsey: In the 1880 Federal Census, "Liva" is living in Douglas Precinct, Douglas County, Nebraska with her parents and two younger siblings. Almond was 5 and Phebe was 2. Olivia was 8 years of age at that time.[3] In the Nebraska State Census of 1885, Olivia was living in Douglas, Douglas, Nebraska and was working as a servant in the household of John W. Yerga. Olivia was 13 years of age.[4] In the United States Census o 1900, Liva was living in Curtis Precinct, Curtis village, Frontier, Nebraska with her husband and four of her children. Raymond was 11, Pearl was 6, (Mary) Evelyn was 3 and Elijah was 1. Liva's sister "Lizzie" (Sarah), at age 20, was also in the household. Husband John was 55 and Liva was 28.[5] In the 1910 Federal Census, Liva was living in Sheraton Twp, Frontier, Nebraska. Her husband John had passed away in 1901, so Olivia hwas then the household head. Raymond was 21, Eva Pearl was 15, (Mary) Evelyn was 12 and Elijah was 10. Liva's father Abner, at age 85, was also in the household. Liva was 38 years of age. [6] In the 1920 Federal Census, Liva was back in Curtis. Still household head, she was living with three of her children. Eva Pearl was 25, (Mary) Evelyn was 22 and Elijah was 20. Liva was 47 years of age.[7] In the 1930 Federal Census, Liva was living in the household of her daughter (Mary) Evelyn and her husband Forrest C. Scherer. The Scherer family was living in Curtis. Forrest was 41, Evelyn was 32 and Olivia was 57 years of age.[8] In the 1940 Federal Census, Liva was living in the household of her youngest son Elijah back in Sheraton Twp. In addition to Elijah, who was at age 40, was Olivia's daughter, Eva Pearl, at age 45 and a female boarder, Gertrude Rose, at age 21. Olivia was at age 67.[9] Olivia died in 1954 and is buried in Arbor Cemetery in Stockville, Frontier, Nebraska alongside of husband John and her son, Richard.[10]
