Luke Hunt was born on 15 Feb 1883 and then baptised on 17 Apr 1883 in a Methodist chapel within the Brinkworth Methodist Circuit in Wiltshire, the son of Mary Jane Hunt of Tockenham Wick.[1] It is presumed his mother was the Mary Jane Hunt who married James Hollick in 1891.
1891: Luke Hunt resident at Tockenham Wick, Wiltshire, age 8, born Wiltshire, lodger with Charles Gough.[2]
On 30 Jul 1900 in Swindon Luke enlisted with the Royal Marines Light Infantry.[3] His date of birth was given as 31 Aug 1881 indicating he lied about his age.
In the 1901 Census he was located at the Royal Marines Barracks at Alverstoke, Hampshire, age 19, a private in the Royal Marines Light Infantry, born Tockenham, Wiltshire.[4]
In the 1911 Census he was located on HMS Exmouth at Malta.
His other postings were HMS Apollo, HMS Duke of Wellington, HMS Cressy, HMS Hindustan, HMS Foresight and HMS Philomel. He left the Royal Marines on 29 July 1912.
Luke Hunt age 29, bachelor, Chauffeur of Tockenham, married Margaret Ann Hunt age 21, spinster of Tockenham, on 20 Nov 1912 at Tockenham, Wiltshire. No father's name was recorded.[5]
The death of Luke Hunt was registered in Q2 1927 in the District of Cricklade, Wiltshire, age 43[6]
