Biography

John Hunt was born[1] in Gorham, Maine, Jan 5, 1786, the son of Ephraim and Abigail Hunt.

McLellan[2] has son John Hunt "m. Mrs. Augusta (Hilton) Shaw, widow of Capt. Sam'l Shaw," an obvious confusion with Augusta's mother, Rachel (Veazie) Hilton Shaw.

McLellan also has "John was a sea captain, and died in New Orleans many years since, leaving his wife and one daughter."

From newspaper articles[3][4], it appears that John Hunt died intestate, perhaps in early 1820. Late in 1820, Augusta Hunt, administratrix of the estate, sold one half of a pew (no 108) on the lower floor of the second parish meeting-house, from the property of the estate of John Hunt, late of Portland.
