Biography

Frederick Charles “Fred” Hunt was born in 1865 in Jamestown, Chautauqua, New York, United States. He was the son of Reuben Hunt and Eveline Frances (Bailey) Hunt. He married Flora Bell (Orcutt) Hunt. Together they were the parents of Harold Reuben Hunt, Desiree Eveline (Hunt) Ball, Elaine (Hunt) Stewart, and Lola M. Hunt. He passed away in 1944 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, United States. He was buried in the Lake View Cemetery in Jamestown, Chautauqua, New York, United States.

Note

Frederick Charles “Fred” Hunt's daughter Desiree Evelyn (Hunt) Ball was the mother of actress Lucille Ball, making Fred her grandfather. After their father died, he helped to raise Lucy and her brother. They had a close relationship. Lucy always referred to him as "daddy", even after she was grown. After Lucy moved to Hollywood, she moved him and the rest of her family out to be with her.

In 1927, he bought a rifle for his grandson Fred. While the kids were shooting at tin cans, a neighbor boy, 8 year old Warner Erickson, accidently got shot in the back. The bullet lodged in his spine and he was paralyzed. Warner's parents sued Mr Hunt and he lost everything, including his home.
