Biography

Grace Lee Hunter was born 14 February 1927 at Forsyth County, North Carolina, United States of America. She is the daughter of Roger Francis Hunter and Alpha Faitha Davis.

Historical documents record Grace as Grace L. Hunter and Grace Hunter. She has also been indexed as Grace Lee Hunter Segraves. Census records record that she was born in North Carolina, at age 13 she was able to read and write and had completed the seventh grade.

Grace is recorded in the 1930 United States Federal Census, enumerated 2 April, as Grace L. Hunter residing with her parents, Roger F. and alpha F. Hunter, in the household of her grandparents, Henry C. and Adeline C. Davis, on River Road in Vienna Township, Forsyth County, North Carolina. She is three and a half years old. Also residing in the household are her seven year old sister Thelma D., four years 10 month old brother Horace D. Her Uncle Paul L. Davis is alse residing in the household.

Her brother Thomas Francis “Tommy” Hunter was born 25 April 1931 at Forsyth County, North Carolina.

In 1935 Grace and her parents were residing at Winston-Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina. Siblings Thelma, Horace, and Thomas were also residing in the household.

Grace is recorded in the 1940 United States Federal Census, enumerated 13 April, as Grace Hunter residing in the household of her parents, Roger and Alpha Hunter, at 502 G Street in North Wilkesboro, North Wilkesboro Township, Wiles County, North Carolina. She is 13 years old and has completed the seventh grade. Also residing in the household are her 17 year old sister Thelma, her brothers 14 year old Horace and eight year old Thomas. Lodgers Ruby and Ruth Mullis, Velma Crenfield, Pearl Roach and Opal Elledge are also residing in the household.

Her brother Edward Douglas Hunter was born 04 June 1943 at North Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina.

She married Coy Lee Segraves. They had two known children.

Their son Samuel Hunter “Sam” Segraves was born 9 October 1951 at Forsyth County, North Carolina.

Her father died 31 July 1982 at North Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina and her mother died 11 September 1983.

Grace was 71 years of age when she died 12 May 1998 at North Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, North Carolina.
