Susan Hunter, daughter of Prof. James Hunter of St Andrews University was a successful author, including works such as "Fanny Hervey or the Mother's Choice" (1849), and "Sedgely Court" (1865).
Birth: Susan Hunter was born on 3 October 1799 at St Andrews, Fife, Scotland according to her obituary, however she may have been born in the nearby parish of Dunino where she was baptised.[1] Her Christening was on 11 October 1799 at Dunino, Fife, Scotland, the register recording "Oct 11 1799 This day Mr Hunter & Mrs Hunter had a female child baptised called Susan. She was born on the 3'd inst",[2][3]
Marriage: On 10 April 1837 at Dundee, Angus, Scotland, Susan Hunter married James Stirling, civil engineer.[4]
Her husband James Stirling died at Edinburgh on 10 January 1876.
Death: Susan Hunter died at Edinburgh on 1 October 1877. She and her husband are buried in the south-west spur of Dean Cemetery in western Edinburgh.[5]
After she died, several newspapers published a long obituary, for example, the St. Andrews Gazette and Fifeshire News, on 6 October 1877.[6]
