Robert was born in 1871, the son of Peter Hunter and Jean McIsaac.
He spent most of his life in the wider Nelson area. He was a natural sportsman, taking part in athletics and playing cricket and rugby till his early 50's.
Bob spent a couple of years on the family farm and in 1886 went prospecting in the Upper Anatoki for 18 months with brothers William and James.
Following this he spent 20 years with the Government Survey, working in Golden Bay and Nelson. After finishing with the Survey he joined the Works Department, working mainly in Nelson from a base at Inangahua Junction with two periods of transfer spent in Napier.
After retiring he lived mainly in Nelson with 9 years spent in Levin. His last years were spent in Richmond with daughter Verna Strawbridge.
He married in 1895, to Charlotte Minnie Emms having 2 children born during the marriage, Verna Lily in 1897, Robert Keith in 1902.
Charlotte passed away in 1913 aged 44.
Robert passed away in 1964, aged 93 and is buried at Richmond Cemetery. No more info is currently available for Robert Hunter. Can you add to his biography?
