Biography

Recorded in the 1880 Census, on June 25th of that year, as living in White Oak Township in the county of Franklin, Arkansas. At that time he was 8 years old and living with father Marion (age 39), mother Martha (30), and siblings Jane (age 12), Mary E. (age 6), George S. (age 4) , and Rosella (age 2). His father Marion was listed as that time as a farmer but "feeble" and unable to work. His parents were recorded as able to read and write, but his 12-year-old sister Jane was not able to read or write.

In the 1900 Census he was recorded as a farmer, 28 years old, living in Eufaula Village, Creek Nation, Indian Territory, with wife Cena R., age 26, born December 1873 in Arkansas, to whom he had been married for 10 years. His wife was mother to either 3 or 5 children, of whom two were then living. Children in the household were Arthur (age 7, born March 1893 in Arkansas) and John (age 1, born October 1898 in Indian Territory).

Recorded in the 1910 Census as 38 years old, living in Vann Township of Muskogee County, Oklahoma with second wife Mary E. (age 20), sons Arthur (age 18) and John (age 11) and daughters Elsie V. (age 6) and Alta M. (age 2), as well as step-daughter Bessie Warfield (age 2).

Recorded in the 1920 Census as 49 years old, living in Bryan Township of Mayes County, Oklahoma with second wife Mary E. (age 29), and daughters Elsie (age 16), Bessie and Alta (ages 12 - note that Bessie is no longer listed as named Warfield, nor as a step-daughter), Georgia (age 9) and Daisy (age 5). His occupation is listed as salesman.

Welton is buried in Hogan Cemetery, Locust Grove, Mayes County, Oklahoma, USA
