Obituary

Alexandria Gazette
29 March 1856
DEATH OF COLONEL GEORGE WASHINGTON HUNTER
We have heard with unfeigned sorrow that our old friend, George W. Hunter, departed this life at his residence, Fairfax County, Va., on Wednesday last, the 25th instant.
The deceased had attained the age of four-score years, but retained in a remarkable degree his strength and activity of both mind and body. Perhaps no man in the community was more generally known, or who transacted a larger amount of public business than Colonel Hunter. His death will be universally regretted.[2]
