In 1851 Jane petitioned the Orphan's Court in Mercer County to appoint her brother, Alexander Hunter, as guardian of her children.

By the 1860 census, Jane has married Hiram McCormick, a widower with children. On the same census page, Margaret J Angelo, 14, the second daughter of Jane, appears in the household of Mathew Hunter, 68, Jane's father. Her oldest son, Edwin, age 18, was in Wisconsin.
