Biography

William Hunting was baptized on 2 July 1570 in Palgrave, Suffolk, England, the son of Roger and Jania/Jane (Leche) Hunting. William was buried in Hoxne, Sufolk on 18 October 1638. He was probably the William Hunting who married Margaret Randolfe on 27 Sep 1599 at Topcroft, Norfolk, the daughter of William Randolf. Margaret Randolf was baptized at Topcroft 15 Nov 1579. Her father, William Randolf, was buried at Topcroft on 26 December 1608. William Randolf's will dated 12 May 1607, proved 7 Jan 1608/9, bequeathed £5 to "Margaret my daughter," a sum to be paid by his son William.[1] Note that Anderson does not consider Margaret's identity proven.

William Hunting of Hoxne, yeoman, made his will on 20 May 1638, proved at Yoxford on 31 October 1638. In it he gave to his wife Margaret a life interest in lands at Hoxne and Denham; he gave to daughter Susan Hunting, £45, and to daughter Anne Hunting £50, in addition to his other children. His son John, however, is not mentioned.[1] John had already emigrated, and perhaps had received his portion to help him start his life in New England.

Margaret Hunting of Hoxne, Suffolk, widow of William, left a will dated 25 Oct 1648 and proved 25 Jan 1648/9, mentioning her son John Hunting and two (unnamed) daughters in New England.[2] She was baptized at Topcroft, Norfolk, 28 Sep 1578 to John son of John Randolf/Randall and Ellen Woodcock.[2]

William and Margaret Hunting were parents to three New England immigrants, in addition to eight other children.[1]
