Note 21 in NEHGR 152 article on ancestry of Joseph Clarke:[2]
Archdeaconry of Norfolk, 335 Porridge. The 1544 Banham subsidy contains adjoining entries for a Richard and a Thomas Huntinge. In his will dated 8 Nov. 1558, proved 10 Oct. 1559 (Norfolk Consistory Court, 24 Goldingham), John Hunting of New Buckenham mentions his brother Thomas, his "sisters" Johan and Margaret Hunting, John Hunting the son of his brother Richard Hunting, and Roger and Margaret, the children of his brother William Hunting, whom we suppose to have been the unidentified husband of Margaret. Johanne's son John Hunting was probably not old enough to have been the unidentified husband of the Margaret Hunting of Palgrave, Suffolk, grandmother of John Hunting of nearby Hoxne and later Dedham, Mass. (Anderson, NGSQ [note 16], 78:85-95). A Stephen Hunting of Banham left a will dated 1662-3 (Archdeaconry Court of Norfolk [1662-3], 339), witnessed by Robert Clarke of Banham, in which he mentions a son John Hunting, probably the same who witnessed the 1685 will of Robert Clarke, gentleman of Banham (abstracted below, p. 23). We can conclude that this family was kin to the Huntings of Hoxne. The Roper family of Winfarthing, adjacent to Banham, had a presence in Hoxne, about which further comments are offered below.
This note appears to indicate that Roger's father was William Hunting, brother to John Hunting of New Buchenham. John's siblings are Thomas, Richard, William, ?Johan, ?Margaret (probably wife of William).

A probate record from Palgrave in 1574 possibly names Margaret Hunting as Margaret Fairchilde Hunting. The Consistory will record registers were named for the person whose will was first in the folio preceded by the will number in the folio, hence 453 Fairchilde. However, her name is listed initially as Margaret Fairchilde Hunting...is this a scribal error or was she related to the first Fairchilde represented in the folio?[3]
From these, we might surmise that Roger's parents were William Hunting and Margaret, that his uncles were at least John, Thomas, Richard Hunting, and that Johan was either an aunt or the wife of one of these uncles.
