Biography

Samuel Huntington was born on 1 Mar 1665, in Norwich Town, Connecticut, the son of Simon Huntington and Sarah Clark. [1] [2]

He married Mary Clark, probably the daughter of William Clark of Wethersfield, Connecticut, on 29 Oct 1686, in Norwich. They settled in Norwich, but in 1700 they sold their house and lot to be used as a parsonage and moved to Lebanon, Connecticut. Children: The first five were born in Norwich, and the other three in Lebanon: [2] [3] [4]

  7. Hannah, born in 1703, baptized in 1703-4.[3]
  8. John, born May 17, 1706.[2][4]

On 3 February 1687, the town of Norwich granted him a parcel of land at Trading Cove Brook, "by the father's to be laid out by measure, 30 or 40 rods wide, the length of his father's land." He held many local offices and was constable in 1692. [2]

In October 1705 and May 1708 he was Deputy to the General Court from Lebanon and in May of 1709 was appointed Lieutenant of first train band of Lebanon. He had become a Townsman while in Norwich and had been appointed Constable as early as 1692.. He name was entered on a list of Lebanon Churches in 1701. He became a large land owner in Norwich and Lebanon. The citizens of Lebanon appointed him on a commission to locate a new meeting house because a dispute had arisen. [2]

Lieutenant Samuel Huntington died on 10 May 1717, in Lebanon at the age of 52. He was buried in Old Cemetery Lebanon, Connecticut. Mary died on 5 Oct 1743 in Lebanon at the age of 73. [2]

He did not become a member of the Church in Lebanon until 1707 although his wife Mary joined shortly after they removed to Lebanon, in 1701.

He was a large land holder in both Norwich and Lebanon. His name appears on the list of the Lebanon church in 1707 and his wife's in 1701. He died there May 10, 1717, and she October 5, 1743.
