Biography

Joseph Lyman Huntington son of Jonathan and Sarah (Hickok) Huntington.

Married Minerva Barto and they were the parents of Dycha A. Huntington, Collins Dwight Huntington, Ralph B. Huntington, Lyman B. Huntington, William J. Huntington, Charles G. Huntington and Ellen M. Huntington. (1850 Census Vevay, Ingham Co., MI)

He married again to Caroline Roys on 9/7/1863 in Danesville, Minnesota. Only information on Ancestry.com other than the marriage, is that she was born in 1820 in the state of New York

Sheriff Joseph Huntington - 1847

Joseph Huntington was born on November 16, 1800 in Hinesburg, Vermont to a very prestigious public service family. His relatives consisted of an artist, Governors of Ohio and Connecticut and President of the Continental Congress. At sixteen he became a shoemaker and moved to Tomkins County, New York. He married in 1823 and they moved to Aurelius Center in 1823, purchased one hundred acres of timber land and cleared out a farm. He was elected Sheriff in 1846 and became the first Ingham County Sheriff to have a jail and a residence. After retiring, Joseph Huntington and his son opened a boot and shoe business in downtown Mason. He died in Mason on March 19, 1874.
