Biography

Sarah (Huntington) Smith was a Connecticuter.

Sarah Lanman Huntington was born on June 18, 1802 in Norwich, New London Co., Connecticut. On July 21, 1833, she married Rev. Eli Smith.

She sailed from Boston on September 21, 1833 and arrived in Beirut on January 28, 1834. She travelled to Smyrna, Turkey on June 11, 1836 and died there September 30, 1836.

Sarah was the daughter of Deacon Jabez Huntington and Mary Lanman. She had been engaged in missionary work for some years before her marriage. Two months after she and Eli Smith were married they left for Malta, on their way to Syria. They went to Smyrna in June 1836 because of her ill health. They were wrecked on the way. Six days of exposure aggravated her illness and she was unable to recover. She died in Boojah, a village about 5 miles from Smyrna.[1]
