Wilbert Newall Hurdman was born the son of Lt-Col William George Hurdman, DSO and Charlotte Elizabeth Burns.[1] He first married Lotta Anna Kezer in 1910[2] and divorced in 1925.[3][4] Secondly, he married Myrtle Angeline Arnold in 1927.[5]
He was a former pupil of Ottawa Collegiate Institute (now known as Lisgar Collegiate Institute).[6] He was an electrician before the Great War and he had served 3 years with 43rd Duke of Cornwall's Own Rifles.[7]
He enlisted for overseas service during the Great War in Jan 1915[7] By the end of the Great War he was a Battery Quarter-Master Sergeant, Army, 3rd Canadian Divisional Column (commanded by his father) after serving for a short time with the 2nd Divisional Signals Company, Canadian Engineers.[7] He was once mentioned in despatches,[8] and demobilised in Mar 1919.[7]

Hampson (Edna), Montreal and Miss Betty Hurdman, Ottawa. Son of the late Lt. Col. W. G. Hurdman, Ottawa, D.S.O. Friends may call at Hulse and Playfair Central Chapel, 315 MacLeod St. on Tuesday 7 to 9 p.m. Service Wednesday, 10 a.m. Interment Beechwood cemetery. Friends desiring to send a memorial tribute may donate to. a. charity of their choice.
