Gerald Claude Hurdman was born the son of Lt-Col William George Hurdman, DSO and Charlotte Elizabeth Burns.[1] He married first Minnie Craigie in 1905 in Ottawa, Ontario.[2] He married secondly Myrtle Pearl Cousins in 1923 in Nova Scotia.[3]
He was an engineer and farmer at the time he signed up for overseas service in the Great War in Dec 1914, and chauffeur-mechanic at his second attestation in Jul 1919.[1] He served for a time in the 3rd Divisional Ammunition Column with his brother under the command of his father.[1] Later served with the Canadian Army Service Corps as a mechanic and driver.[1] He was discharged in Feb 1920.[1]
