Richard's birth date is an estimate based on the christening date of son James, born Upottery, Devon. While no vital event data is yet found for Richard, a Richard Hurford is documented in Upottery via signature to the Loyalty Oath of 1723. No evidence is offered that Richard of 1723 is this Richard, father of James. It is at best likely, at worst uncertain.
