Billington was born about 1813. He was the son of William Hurst and Nancy Scruggs. He passed away before 1870.
Claim for pension filed August 28, 1865. A subsequent claim was filed on June 25, 1880 and a following investigation revealed that Billington S Hurst had died 6-10 years prior to this claim and that his son, William C Hurst was impersonating him in order to obtain his pension. William C Hurst was tried and convicted on December 2, 1884 in U.S. Court, Eastern District of Arkansas and sentenced on December 5, 1884 to imprisonment for 13 months at the House of Corrections, Detroit, Michigan, and to pay a fine of $1000 and costs of prosecution.
