Biography

Anna Marie Husser was born on 15 Sep. 1873 at Utica, Oneida Co., New York. She moved with her parents, John Husser and Christiane Friederike (Hiller) Husser from North Gage, New York to Kansas leaving on Oct. 29, 1879.[1] She appeared on the census of 10 June 1880 in the household of her parents at Jackson, Edwards Co., Kansas.[2] She appeared on the census of 1 March 1885 in the household of her parents at Kinsley, Jackson Twp., Edwards Co., Kansas.[3] She appeared on the census of 1 March 1895 in the household of her parents at Kinsley, Jackson Twp., Edwards Co., Kansas.[4] She appeared on the census of 1 June 1900 in the household of her parents at Jackson Twp., Edwards Co., Kansas.[5] She appeared on the census of 1 March 1905 in the household of her parents at Edwards Co., Kansas.[6]

About 1900 she or her sisters started collecting postcards, they saved them in a large black book the Husser_Sisters_Postcards Collection.

She married Herman Willis Smith, son of George Mortimer Smith and Mary Jane (Griffin) Smith, on 10 Sep. 1910 at Kinsley City, Edwards Co., Kansas.[7][8]

Herman wrote:

May 26, 1911. Saturday.
We went to town in a.m. met stage with Matilda Husser {Marie's sister} on board took her back to town. I cultivated trees on Marie's place and musk melons on Leo's lot. Sent seeds to A. R. and Marie sent sister Emma $5 for wedding present to Lead City, S.D.[8]

She witnessed the marriage of her sister, Wilhelmina Emily Husser, and Dr. Charles Frederick Clark on 28 May 1914 at her home at 505 Fifth St., Garden City, Finney Co., Kansas.[8] She and Herman appeared on the census of 1 March 1915 at Garden City, Finney Co., Kansas, USA.[9] She visited with Aaron Winfield Griffin on 7 March 1916 at her home with Herman in Garden City, Finney Co., Kansas.[8] She and Herman appeared on the census of 22 Jan. 1920 at Seward Twp., Seward Co., Kansas.[10] She and Herman appeared on the census of 4 April 1930 at Omaha, Boone Co., Arkansas.[11] She was at home when Nathaniel and Rose came to visit on 16 Sep. 1939 at her home on Highway 65, Omaha, Boone Co., Arkansas.[8] She and Herman appeared on the census of 17 April 1940 at Omaha, Boone Co., Arkansas. She and Herman Willis Smith lived on 18 July 1940 at Highway 65, Omaha, Boone Co., Arkansas.[12] She witnessed the burial of her mother-in-law, Mary Jane (Griffin) Smith on 19 July 1940 at Rose Hill Cemetery, Harrison, Boone Co., Arkansas. She and Herman lived in 1949 at 839 Main St., Riverside, Riverside Co., California.[13]

During the 1940's she received letters from several friends that she had known in Arkansas and Missouri. Copies of letters are included in the profiles for Lena Pearl Hamon and Jessie (Hammond) Held.

Anna Marie died on 5 Nov. 1957 at General Hospital, Arlington, Riverside Co., California[14], at age 84. She was buried on 7 Nov. 1957 at Olivewood Cemetery, 3300 Central Ave., Riverside, Riverside Co., California.[15] Her memorial has a photo of her headstone shared with Herman and a link to that of their son Philip.[16]
