Daniel, son of John Husted and Nancy Connor, was born 16 August 1809 in Cumberland County, New Jersey.[1] On 24 December 1831 in Cumberland County, New Jersey, he married Rachel Dillhefer a.k.a. Dilshaver,[2][3][4] daughter of Phillip Dillshefer and Margaretha Taver,[5] with whom he had children:[6]
In 1860, the family living in Fairfield Township, New Jersey, included Daniel (age 51) and Rachel (52), and their children Benjamin F. (25), Margareta (19), Anna E. (15) and Daniel (13).[12] Her husband cultivated his own land valued at $4,500[12] (about $137,000 in 2019),[16] which increased in value to $7,000 in 1870.[17] The aging Danuel (age 62) continued to work his land in 1870 with assistance from their son Benjamin (35), while Rachel (63) and Anna (25) maintained their home.[17]
By 1880 Daniel (age 71) continued to work his farm to support Rachel B. (72) and their granddaughter Rachel Husted (11).[18]
