She married Enoch Tonkin 19 Apr 1823 in St Levan, Cornwall [2]
On 26 August 1839 Enoch Tonkin applied for free passage to South Australia. The application says that he was a 40 year old carpenter with a 39 year old wife and six children: boys aged 7, 4, 3 and 3 months, girls aged 10 and 2. A 16 year old carpenter named Willm H. Tonkin applied at the same time. They received embarkation numbers 3653 and 3654.[3]
On 5 September 1839 Amelia Tonkin, a 15 year old servant, made her application for free passage; she received embarkation number 3655.[4]
Betsy and Enoch Tonkin with their 6 children emigrated to South Australia on the Java, arriving at Port Adelaide on 6 Feb 1840. William and Amelia arrived in the same vessel.[5]
Betsy Tonkin died age 78 on 10 Nov 1875 in Torrens Vale, South Australia [6]
