John Hutchings was born in Dorset, England.

John was born in Haselbury, Dorset, England, in 1853. His birth was registered in the second quarter in Sturminster. He was the son of William Hutchings and Jane Burge.

John married Emma Wide in 1881. The marriage was registered in the second quarter in Pancras, London. The couple would have at least nine children. John and his famiy were enumerated in the 1891, and 1901, census residing in Essex. He was a "Police Constable". In 1911 had retired and was living in Great Gaddesden, Hertfordshire. He listed his occupation as "Police Pensioner".

John passed away in 1925. His death was registered in the second quarter in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.
