On 24 DEC 1671 William Wheatly, mariner of London, proved his rights to 2,000 acres of land in the Province of Maryland for transporting 40 persons. One of those named was Thomas Hutchins.[1] He is listed as a taxable living on the north side of the Gunpowder River in Baltimore County by 1702.[2]
They Arrival of Thomas Hutchins and his brother William Hutchins in Baltimore County, Maryland, can be fixed before 1685 when Thomas leased from the Lord Proprietor with William Lenox and Edward Solby a tract of 375 acres called Leaf's Chance south of the present villageof Kingsville (Survey #10, Rent Rolls of Maryland).http://www.gkca.info/historic/index.htmlThe original survey of Leaf's Chance was made in 1679 for Francis Leafe. The tract was conveyed in June 1685 by Leafe to William Ramsey who then reconveyed the land later that year to the trio of Lenox, Solby and Hutchins. Thomas received as his portion, at a yearly rent of 15 Shillings, 100 acres named Boon's Delight on which he lived (Maryland Historical Magazine, v. XX, p. 278-279). Thomas's brother William Hutchins also acquired in 1685 part of the nearby lands known as Constant Friendship.
In 1714 Thomas purchased a 200 acre tract of land called Betty's Inheritance from James Richardson. The tract bordered Richardson's land called Richardson's Outlet and the deed calls Thomas an inn holder.[3] Besides purchasing land, Thomas also used the Maryland Patent process to claim several tracts in Baltimore County:
