Biography

He was married at Northampton, Massachusetts, on 03 July 1691, to Sarah Root (b. 04 March 1671/72, Northampton, Massachusetts), daughter of Joseph Root and Hannah Haynes. Between 1695 and 1698, Samuel took his wife and two young children and moved to the new settlement of Lebanon, New London County, Connecticut, and on 04 January 1700 was one of the 51 original granteees deeded land there by Samuel Mason. He died in Lebanon, New London Co, CT, 17 Apr 1747.

His will of 07 March 1740 was proved on 10 January 1758/59. The Inventory of his estate taken on 09 April 1759 yielded a value of 6 pounds, having been appraised by Mrs. Ebenezer Hutchinson, Elisha Strong, and Joseph Root. The Executors of the estate were to be his sons Eleazer and Stephen, but Eleazer predeceased his father.
