Mary is believed to have been born around 1801 in Lesbury, Northumberland this is estimated based on census information.

Mary Unknown married James Murdoch or Murdock however a record of this has not been identified.

Their children were:

1. Mary Murdoch (1834^[1] - )

By 1851 Mary is said to be 51 years old and Widowed she is going by the name Mary Hutchinson. She resides with her daughter Mary (16) in Heaton, Northumberland^[2]

By 1861 Mary is said to be 60 years old and going by Mary Hutchinson. She has her daughter Mary and her husband Johnstone Geggie living with her in Westgate, Northumberland^[3].

Research Notes

This profile needs a lot of work. There is some doubt over Mary's surname at birth.

In the 1861 census Mary is living with her daughter daughter Mary aged 27 along with her daughter's husband Johnstone Geggie^[3]

The confusion then arises as the surname Geggie is not particularly common and then couple that with the forename of Johnstone we have certainly what I would say is an unusual name combination. The marriage record for Johnstone and Mary (the daughter of this Mary) lists his wife's name as Mary Murdock. The couple married on 7 December 1856 in Newcastle upon Tyne^[4][5]. Her father is named as James Murdock on the marriage record.

So when considering these records two possibilities come to mind. Either the Mary in this profile was born Hutchinson and married to become Murdock or following the death of her Murdock husband she remarried to become Hutchinson leaving her birth name as unknown.

Her daughter's birth or baptism names her parents as James Murdock and Mary^[6].

I have not been able to locate a marriage for a James Murdock (or variant spellings) to a Mary in the correct timeframe and area which draws us to a blank.

I have not managed to locate Mary or her daughter in the 1841 census.

The most likely scenario is that Mary Unknown married James Murdock sometime prior to 1834. James Murdock died and she remarried an Unknown Hutchinson who died prior to 1851 when we find both Mary and her daughter going by the name of Hutchinson. However this needs corroboration.
