Joseph was born in 1905. He passed away in 1978. [1]
Joseph David Hutchinson was born to James Hutchinson and Eleanor Avis. He was an only child. He first married Emma Margaret Wilhemina Washington new Belcher a widow in 1929 . He had one daughter to Emma named Dorothy Hutchinson in 1929. Then Joseph transferred his affections to Emma' daughter, his step daughter Marjory Washington and out if this union a child was conceived named Shirley Washington. This child s birth was registered by Joe giving her mother as Emma however in conversations with a family member I am told it was known that in fact she was Joe and Marjory's daughter. At some point shortly after Shirley's birth Joe and Marjory left her behind for Emma to raise as her daughter. Joe then assumed the surname if his mother being Avis and Marjory adopted the christian name of Frances Margaret and also adopted the surname Avis.. They went to live in NSW and had no more contact with their families . They had 9 more children together. Joe git work as a stationhand on properties in Tumut ,Bookham, Jugiong, Bowning Yass and Bungendore. I do not believe they married at any stage. When Joe died in 1978 Frances opened up to her family that she wanted to find her mum and siblings. Her sister Pearl was located eventually and came to Canberra to visit her . Dorothy i believe was with her (Frances half sister) . Emma her mother had already passed away.
