Biography

Ellen and Ernest were married at 88 Seton Street, Toronto by the Rev. Dr. Hunter of Carlton Street Methodist Church. Ellen, known to most as "Nellie" was the daughter of Maria Turner and Matthew Hutchinson who had 284 Young Street and 10 Louisa Street as addresses in earlier years but today they are both beneath a structure know as the new Eaton Centre on the corner of Yonge and Dundas Streets. Nellie was baptized November 14, 1872 at Zion Congregational Church and attended Louisa Street School where Eaton's College Street Store now stands. During the years 1874-1889 Ellen's mother Maria (Turner) Hutchinson operated a 'Fancy Goods Store' at 475 Yonge Street next to Turner's House and Machine place of business. Nellie was interested in choir work, was a Methodist and at her death in 1942 she was a member of Timothy Eaton Memorial United Church and had been ill for quite some time. ^[1]
