Biography

Vera Florence Vining Hutchinson was born in 1907 at Hastings, Sussex. ^[1]

In the 1911 census Florence was living with her widowed mother Florence Ada Hutchinson at 26 Marina, St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex. She was aged 3 years. ^[2]

Vera married Dick Mervyn Harvey Richards in 1928 at Hastings. ^[3]

This couple had three children including Jacqueline Vera Richards born 1930 and Geoffrey Mervyn Richards born 1937.

In the 1929 and 1930 electoral rolls for Hastings Dick and Vera were recorded living at 56 Silverlands Rd [in the Silverhill and Hollington Ward]. And in 1931 they were living at 8 Markwick Terrace on the ground floor [St. Leonard Ward]. Vera's third name in all three rolls was written as Vinning. ^[4]

The 1939 Register, taken on 29 September 1939, has been described as a snapshot of the civilian population of England and Wales just after the outbreak of the Second World War. The Register recorded each person's address, date of birth and occupation.
At that time Dick and Vera were residing at 27 Pevensey Road, Hastings. Dick, born 19 February 1907, was aged 32. He was working as a carpenter. Vera, born 12 April 1907, was also aged 32. Daughter Jacqueline, born 21 May 1930, was aged 9 and attending school. Her surname was later amended to Kent, her married surname. Son Geoffrey, born 17 October 1937, was aged 1. ^[5]

Dick's mother Alice Alberta Richards, known as Berta, died at 27 Pevensey Road on 17 February 1947. ^[6]

£74 Raid on Flat at St. Leonards.
Hastings C.I.D. were called to 27 Pevensey-road, St. Leonards on Monday to investigate a theft at a flat occupied by Mr. Dick Richards.
It was found that the flat had been entered, and £35 in cash and jewellery valued at £40 were missing. ^[7]

Vera Florence V Richards died in 1984 aged 77 years. ^[8]

She was buried on 6 December 1984 at St Leonard Churchyard in Hollington, East Sussex. ^[9]

Dick Mervyn H Richards died in 1990 aged 83 years. ^[10]
