Thank you for connecting our families. It is great to have another active member, so close on here. It looks like you have managed to do a great job entering your tree.
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.
You've been a member for a while so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions? Most of us have questions after all that information!
I want to help! Click my name, send me a private message or ask in the comment section of my page. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

PS To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
One of our WikiTree Mentors created this amazing help for GEDCompare, which is the method to transfer those genealogy files. Here is this very useful tool to more easily work the process.
I truly hated working on GEDCOMs until I read this document. Now, I think they are truly no big deal. Of course, having the GEDCOM in smaller doses helps as well! Let me know if you need more assistance and we shall make sure you get it!
Let me know if you require assistance. I am happy to help. After adding my own family and ancestors I have found many cousins and distant ancestors here on WikiTree.

I think I've done my page ok (Hutton-2694) and have added my father (Hutton-2695), but when I try and add a father to him, I get an "Edit conflict" and it keeps telling me I have to go back to my father's profile.
(For now, I'm working up my paternal line and eventually hope to link to Hutton-1341, who, I believe, is my great-great-grandfather).
Bob it is an indication you already have a tab open for the profile from which you wish to generate the new one. Finish editing the original tab first and don't forget to scroll down the page and click SAVE CHANGES before you leave the Profile Page of your father then you should be able to add his father.
....a little more explanation. If you are busy editing a profile and suddenly you try to add a father you need to first close that tab by saving it. Then you can add the new profile

Am I right in thinking the only thing you can do with GEDCOM files is matching. (i.e. you can't directly import)?
Cheers, Bob
