Biography

Nancy married Landon Bonham on 10 Aug 1818. Landon purchased 42 acres and 22 hundredths of an acre from the Chillicothe Land Office on 05 Aug 1837. Two years later, on 01 Oct 1839, he purchased another 42 acres and 23 hundredths of an acre from the same land offce. The legal description of both tracts show that they lay right next to each other in Lawrence County, Ohio, giving him a total of 84 acres and 45 hundredths of an acre.

Nancy married John Pemberton on 17 Jan 1843 at Jackson County, Ohio. [1]

Three(and possibly four) of his children; Francis Marion, Delcy, John W., and Alexander (aged 11 years) are living with the John and Nancy Pemberton family in the 1850 US Census of Windsor, Lawrence County, Ohio. There being no explanation for this, I think if highly likely that Landon died before 1850; and, his wife, Nancy, the same age as "Nancy Pemberton" on this census, married John Pemberton. It looks as though John Pemberton already had 8 children by his first wife, the youngest of which, Mary Pemberton, was the same age as John W. Bonham, the youngest child of Landon and Nancy Bonham. By 1850, two more children were born after the death of both spouses of John and Nancy Pemberton, being Joseph M. Pemberton, aged 4, and Lucinda Pemberton, aged 2.

Nancy and her second husband, John Pemberton, were still living during the taking of the 1870 US Census at Windsor, Lawrence County, Ohio. Now, what seems to be their grandchildren, the children of Clinton Pemberton and his wife, Perlina, are living with them, numbering eleven in total. Nancy was noted as an "invalid" on this census. John probably died before the 1880 Census as he cannot be found within it.

Ancestry.com's Millennium File gives an alternate maiden name for Nancy: Hirt. The File states that her parents were William Hirt and Betsey Thatcher.
