Biography

Joshua Hyde was born in Dudley, England. He married Priscilla Vickers Kesterton in 1852. In 1866, the family migrated to the US. They arrived in New York on the ship Manchester. They settled in New London where Joshua and his sons worked in the salvage trade.

Joshua, son of William Hyde & Sarah Hyde, was baptized on 1 August 1830 in St. Thomas', Dudley, Worcester, England.^[1]

In the 1841 census Joshua (age 11) was in Dudley, Worcestershire, England.^[2]

In the 1851 census Joshua (age 21) was the son of Wm Hyde in Dudley, Worcestershire, England.^[3]

Joshua (age 21), son of William Hyde, married Pricilla W(K)esterton on 25 December 1852 in Sedgley, Stafford, England.^[4]

In the 1861 census Joshua (age 30) was the head of household in Dudley, Worcestershire, England.^[5]

Joshua arrived in New York on 12 September 1866. His occupation was listed as sailor. Daughter Edith was about 1 year old.^[6]

Joshua was naturalized a citizen of the United States on 19 Oct 1872.^[7]

Joshua lived on Fort Trumbull in 1872 in New London, Connecticut, United States. His occupation was listed as vise maker.^[8]

In the 1900 census Joshia (age 74), Vice Maker, was the married father of Henry F Hyde in New London, New London, Connecticut.^[10] Wife: Priscilla, Sons: Henry (HOH) and Samuel

Joshua died in 1906 and was buried in Connecticut.^[11]

Father of Joshua might be Thomas Hyde and wife Sarah.

See Thos's son Josh. Hyde was baptized on 25 February 1821 at Saint Thomas's Church, Dudley, Worcestershire, England.^[12]

There is a Joshua Hyde in the 1865 New London City Directory, living at 158 Bank Street. ^[13] Maybe he came over earlier and returned to accompany his family over? As of 27 May 2023, have not found an immigration record other than the 1866 record with his family.
